The Sunday note

Hatha yoga · Valencia

One method, taught properly

My grandmother kept a photograph of herself in headstand at seventy-two. She practised the same sequence every morning for four decades and could not name a single posture in Sanskrit.

That is roughly my position on yoga. The method matters; the vocabulary much less. I trained in Spain and then for two long stretches in Chennai, and I teach what I was taught, in the order I was taught it.

Warm Frond is one room above a bakery in Valencia with fourteen mats and a wooden floor. Classes run in eight-week blocks, and we ask you commit to the block — the sequence only makes sense once it repeats.

Beginners are genuinely welcome. Most of our students had never practised before they came.
